Comedy

Morning Glory (2010) **

I wish I could write that Morning Glory is a fluffy version of Network (1972). Unfortunately Morning Glory, despite containing elements from Network (grumpy newscaster, ambitious young producer, the importance of rating), contains only the fluff stuff.

Megamind (2010) ***

All in all, Megamind is a very well-intended film and I applaud the writers and filmmakers for tackling such topics but due to lack of focus, the delivery falls short of the intention.

RED (2010) ***

If you loved Bruce Willis in Die Hard and its sequels, you will love him in RED, which, if not based on a comic book by the same name, could have been titled Die Hard with Friends... RED is a fluffy fun film that showcases violence in a way that is tolerable, pokes fun with good timing, and most of all, features a cast that is delightful to watch.

Easy A (2010) ***

A decent teen comedy, addressing a few topics that deserve an even better attention, including teen sex,the outcasts' need for acceptance, and the evil power of rumors, especially at the difficult age of high-school.

The Other Guys (2010) ***

This police parody is one hour too long and suffers from unevenness as well as thin plot and poor pacing. Only reason I am giving it an extra star, over the two it deserves, is because on occasion it shines with hilarious dialogues.

The Gods Must Be Crazy (South Africa, 1980) *****

This film has just about everything right – a smart story made of 4 plots that intertwine into one adventure, a touch of an educational documentary about wild-life in Africa, social and environmental commentary with a political flair, some romance and plenty of native charm... If you’ve never seen this film, you are in for a treat. If you’ve seen it and don’t remember, it means it’s been too long and you should take it out again...
