The Gods Must Be Crazy (South Africa, 1980) *****

This film has just about everything right – a smart story made of 4 plots that intertwine into one adventure, a touch of an educational documentary about wild-life in Africa, social and environmental commentary with a political flair, some romance and plenty of native charm... If you’ve never seen this film, you are in for a treat. If you’ve seen it and don’t remember, it means it’s been too long and you should take it out again...

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Sweden, 2009) ***

The second installment of Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire, is intense and engaging, but lacks the grip and originality of the first film in the series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

The Kids Are All Right (2010) ***

The Kids Are All Right could have been a wonderful film about a host of topics; but instead, it ends up saying almost nothing. Some parts are very convincing, humoristic, honest and touching, while other parts feel artificial and staged. The film starts and develops with a firm direction, but then stutters towards the end like a car out of gas. But most of all, there is nothing new in this otherwise to fresh of a setup.

The Real Dirt On Farmer John (2005) ***

The film tells a good story, a story worth telling, a story of struggle, loss and prevalence an American story for the green organic generation.

Gomorrah (Italy, 2008) ***

Gomorrah is a fine movie whose style resembles films made during the Italian neorealism period. It uses a somewhat atypical manner of story-telling, intertwining bits and pieces of several different plots, into a story that ultimately makes sense.

Nowhere in Africa (2001) ****

A sensitive German film about the Holocaust and WWII, told from a different angle. It tells the story of a German Jewish family that escaped to Kenya during WWII, fleeing the Nazis and ending up running a farm.
