Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011) ***

Jeff_Who_Lives_at_HomeAn uneven indie comedy, directed and written by Jay and Mark Duplass, Jeff, Who Lives at Home is sort of a mess. It consists of funny bits and moments of charm; and then there is the rest – a sluggish plot that seems to go nowhere for the better part of the film. Jason Segel and Ed Helms star as two brothers who don’t really get each other, Judy Greer weeps for a good portion of the film, while Susan Sarandon shines in a supporting role. The story carries a sarcastic edge to at its start but loses it towards the end. If the ending is somewhat surprising (even if far-fetched), that could have worked fine if not for the change of tone.
