Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) ***

The second installment in Marvel Comics Captain America's superhero franchise is violent, wickedly silly, and very predictable. In fact, if one cannot identify the villains right from the start, a moral vision test may be in place... That being said, what this film lacks in plot twists and subtlety, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, makes plenty in engaging action scenes, well-executed special effects, and witty comic-relief lines, delivered impeccably by Scarlett Johansson in her role as Natasha Romanoff aka the Black Widow. All in all the cast carries convincing performances. Chris Evans is perfect for the role and is well supported by Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie and many others.
At over two hours, the film feels a little long, but moving at the pace it does, time flies by at falcon speed.
The filmmakers combined into the plot commentary about current events, most notably the fear of the NSA tapping into our daily life. It is refreshing and I, for one, applaud them for it.
If you can stomach large dishes of violence, love Comics superhero flicks and are looking for pre-summer entertainment, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is for you.
