It’s been a while since I walked out of a film long before its rolling end titles. But my distress overcame my sense of duty for watching this piece of misery all the way through. Damsels in Distress, written and directed by Whit Stillman and starring Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton, is one of those pretentious films that some film critics like to praise while audiences steer clear off. Its like making a satire about telling bad jokes by telling bad jokes – no, it’s not funny. At first I thought that maybe there is some hidden message I am not getting, but my film companion confirmed she was ready to leave the theater as soon as I am. Don’t waste your time and ticket cost.
