Bourne Trilogy (Identity 2002, Supremacy 2004, Ultimatum 2007) *****

BourneThe Bourne trilogy is the perfect spy-action-suspense movie(s). Jason Bourne (a name-play on James Bond?) is the ultimate hero, whose transformation takes place just before the trilogy begins; when this highly-trained assassin decides to stop killing, at least stop killing those who are not trying to kill him... The trilogy, which starts with a body in the water and ends with a body in the water, is outstanding in terms of plot, character development, pacing and editing, suspense music, cinematography, directing and superb delivery from a cast led flawlessly by Matt Damon. It was originally written as three novels by Robert Ludlum: The Bourne Identity (1980), The Bourne Supremacy (1986) and The Bourne Ultimatum (1990). I have watched this trilogy several times, aside from originally seeing it at the theater, over the past few years. Whenever I happen to catch it accidentally on TV, I just can’t help myself but watch it again. And each time I am drawn in even when I don’t have the time to spare. It is one of these rare instances where the remake is by far better than the original.
