Poking fun at the sci-fi genre, as well as the Bible-belt like rednecks, Paul aims high and flattens out. It has some very funny moments, some amusing references to sci fi films of the past (including Sigourney Weaver shooting at the alien,) but all in all, though written by the Brits Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Paul is a typical Seth Rogen (lending his voice to Paul) fart comedy. It is entertainingly trying to be vulgar but ends up being cute. Though who wants to call a comedy cute?
